Doug has been growing cacti and succulents in Connecticut since the 1970's. He started adding to his collection while living in Seymour. Believing in sustainable gardening Doug composts to create his own soil which he uses for transplanting the plants into larger pots. Many of the pots used are recycled. His success in growing these plants is well represented in the abundance of blossoms that are produced each year.
Doug and his wife Venus have started a picture gallery of blossoms that are truly amazing. People can now enjoy and share the beauty through the line of greeting cards we offer.
Periodically we will be changing the card selections as each year brings new pictures. Please check our card selections and order through our shopping cart. Cards are shipped within the same week they are ordered. Contact us anytime if you have any questions. Thank you, Doug & Venus Peterson
WINTER STORAGE: During the colder months typically late October through mid April all the cacti and succulents are stored in Doug's home in a spare bedroom. No watering takes place during the winter causing the plants to go dormant. The next time they receive water is when they are placed back out side where they are watered by rain.
CHIN CACTUS: This cactus is called a Gymnocalycium Saglionis. It has been in my collection for over 14 years and blossoms each summer.
HYBRID CACTUS: These are the hybrid echinopsis that originated from one cactus. The mother plant is about to blossom and they open at night.
PARODIA TURECEKIANA: This type of cactus blooms mid to late afternoon and closes after about 3 hours but will reopen 2 or 3 more days. These multiplied by seed from the mother plant.
ECHINOPSIS EYRIESII / EASTER LILY CACTUS: This variety of echinopsis produces pure white blossoms which open at night and last until mid morning. I describe the scent as sweet lemony.
ECHINOPSIS HYBRID: Another night blooming echinopsis with a light pink color. All of these originated from one cactus that multiplied from "pups" which are smaller cacti that form at the base of the plant.
